The First Post

Well, here it is. The highly anticipated first post.

I'm starting off on this journey in the hope that I will become part of the larger community that is teacher blogging.

I recently attended SDE's national conference in Las Vegas (along with 6,500 other teachers!) and I have been completely inspired. It was so incredible to be sitting among eager, enthusiastic teachers and listening to such engaging and influential presenters. Many of these presenters and participants are part of the blogging community, and I felt compelled to join in and network with other professionals, especially those who inspire me the most!

While I was in Vegas, I definitely felt like a little fish in a big pond! I was listening to presentations given by the best of the best in the field. To teach children and to do so effectively is a challenge in and of itself; but to be an influential educator of educators is a whole other bag! And a complicated one at that. Teachers do not make the best students -- we can be critical, cynical, difficult to engage. I sat in some of the best professional development seminars I have ever experienced, and I found myself wanting to push myself to inspire others as well! My time in Vegas reminded me so much of when I was a swimmer and I went to Nationals for the first time. I was starstruck, inspired, and a complete nobody. :) It pushed me to want to be and even better teacher for my students and possibly help others in the profession with guidance and collaboration with others along the way.

So here it is! My first attempt at blogging, networking and reaching out!
